Hacker Dojo Job Fair

'The Hacker Fair'

A FREE event for talented developers to showcase their skills for companies who are hiring.

January 16th, 2010 from 10am - 1pm

140 South Whisman Road, Mountain View, CA.

At the Hacker Fair, the job seekers are the ones giving demonstrations, and the recruiters are the ones walking around.

Think of it as a "science fair" where the "science projects" are the developers' personal and side projects, the "judges" are recruiters, and the "prizes" are interviews and hopefully job offers! Breakfast provided by Microsoft, please register so we can plan for food!

Employers Attending

Employers, come ready to see developers' projects and code. This isn't your normal job fair, be ready to for a "technical screen".

Sign up for the Hacker Fair by joining the hacker-fair-recruiter Google Group and then add your information below so that candidates can see that you're coming.

I would be happy to provide either the resume or interview presentation. I am not an HD member but have a close friend who is. I was at Cisco in HR and Staffing for 10 years and have a lot of info I can share about resume writing as well as interviewing techniques

I'd like to toss Mozilla's hat into the ring. We're going to be adding a number of developers in 2010. Also, I'm happy to look over folk's resumes, answer questions about interviewing, talk about Mozilla's upcoming projects. I'm sure Mozilla folk would be happy to attend... what would be most helpful for me/us to contribute? Contact: bret@mozilla.com

This seems like a great event! I am working for Ooyala (www.ooyala.com - ex-Google startup based in Mountain View). We are growing very aggressively in 2010 and would love to be a part of this. I would like to also offer my recruiting expertise and help anyone who has questions about networking, resume writing, etc.

I can help out, however I do need a computer
at hacker dojo to show my work. Can I rent a computer?
also how much is the fee for the job fair for non member

Bill Ward said

at 9:01 pm on Dec 23, 2009

Dean, perhaps you have a friend or someone who can loan you a laptop? If you have only a desktop it should still be possible to bring it and set it up at the Dojo if needed. As for a fee, we have a suggested donation of $10 per day for nonmembers at the Dojo.

dean said

at 10:49 am on Dec 24, 2009

are there wireless connection?

Bill Ward said

at 10:54 am on Dec 24, 2009

At a place like Hacker Dojo, that's about the same as asking if there is oxygen. :-) Actually even if Hacker Dojo didn't provide wifi, the city and Google offer free wifi city-wide.

Danielle Morrill said

Hey I'll be there to recruit for Twilio, we're hiring for developers for both web tech and infrastructure/core technologies - and I'll be sticking around for the CodeChix meetup later if anyone is interested in hanging out and hacking in between the two.

We got TechCrunched!

the_vinci said

at 1:18 pm on Jan 7, 2010

Hey Dean. I know this is probably a stupid questions. So how will the event setup work? Is this a booth setup or a presentation for each person? I know you guys probably have a projector - I just want to make sure that all my bases are covered. Do I need to bring my own equipment other than my laptop? Thanks for setting up the event. I think Hacker Dojo is a cool concept. We are trying to start one here in Austin where we empower people through technology and making their lives easier. Maybe we can talk more when I get there.

Katy Levinson said

at 2:02 pm on Jan 7, 2010

Candidates will be given some space at a table to setup their work and, if all goes well, one electric plug. Recruiters will walk around to meet them. We are not going to have time to cycle everybody through a presentation on stage. If you want a projector, a power strip, or any other equipment for your personal demo I recommend you bring it yourself.

Dean Mao said
