Flash: We're organizing a one day Learn Haskell Workshop as part of the Haskell Hackathon in February 2011.

Several people at the Dojo have indicated that they'd be interested in learning Haskell. While I'm by no means an expert, I have written production grade Haskell code, and have helped people understand Haskell concepts before. I'd like to help others learn this great language and the ideas it brings to Computer Science.

If you'd be interested in learning more about Haskell, please help me understand what you'd like:

Format

  • Reading group based on the book "Real World Haskell"
  • One day or Half-day workshop
  • An 90-min session once a week for about four weeks

Level

  • Just give us the flavor
  • Get us writing real code
  • I want to understand Monads!!!!!!

Timing

  • Weekday / Weekend
  • Daytime / Evening

Another idea is that the Haskell community puts on "hackathons" in various cities. We haven't had one in the Bay Area for a while. One idea I had was to organize one at the Dojo, say a long weekend Thru - Sun, and hold a workshop for new programmers on Saturday. In that case, there would be a number of experienced Haskell programmers to help out. Downside is that this would probably be in September or October at earliest.
