Melissalynn Perkins
Founding Director and Treasurer, May 2009 - May 2010
- As one of the first five Founding Directors, Melissalynn helped to implement the initial vision for Hacker Dojo as well as formulate revisions to the Dojo daily operations as needed.
- As the first Treasurer of Hacker Dojo, Melissalynn was tasked with creating and implementing the way finances and memberships were documented and handled. In this role, she had complete financial management and oversight of Hacker Dojo, Inc. and Hacker Dojo the physical space. On a daily basis, she took care of any financial need such as the establishment of an insurance policy and timely payment of all approved services as well as verification of membership status.
- In Hacker Dojo's early days, Melissalynn was heavily involved in both the Opening Day Open House to celebrate the Dojo opening its doors to the public in August 2009 as well as the Grand Opening party held in September 2009. She also was responsible for the creation and implementation of the initial Staff Training.
- In early 2010, Melissalynn took over as the Interim Events Director while the Hacker Dojo transitioned from a one point person, hand approved system to the new, automated and computer generated approval system.
- Melissalynn has since left Hacker Dojo to pursue a new life in Boulder, CO and while she greatly misses the Dojo family, she is definitely enjoying her new home.
- In the beginning, committed large sums of money to the Dojo to help it start-up; arranged and subsidized Deck flooring
- Dealt with member issues (membership, dues, handling mailing lists and user accounts, coordinating with others as needed)
- Coordinated with city for building permits and extensions, working with architect to keep improvements moving
- Addressed larger issues such as Dojo cleanliness by finding inexpensive cleaners to clean common areas daily, cleaning full Dojo weekly; happily helping with the events system, to move it along; gave tours to prospective sponsors, encouraging hacking events
- Took over treasurer duties, including setting up the books (personally paying for bookkeeper, and CPA for taxes)
- Dojo Axeman, having had asked several unruly members and guests to leave the Dojo when their presence was disruptive
- Helped make a room pink.
