David began to conceive of the need for a facility that programmers could use 24/7 back in 2000, after living in a geek home in San Jose,CA with Dan Kaminsky, Jason Abele, and Jason Labelle. As the co-founder of DevHouse in 2005 with Jeff Lindsay, David helped bring together the coding community - these efforts culminated on January 31, 2009 with SHDH #30 at Sun Microsystems' Executive Briefing Center, an event attended by over 400 programmers. A that event, David proposed to the crowd the creation of a 24/7 community center that could be used by programmers and other intellectual property workers. The response was tremendous and within a week, a vibrant mailing list and wiki were set up to explore the possibility. After half a year of diligent work on the part of dozens of volunteers, David, Jeff, and Matt signed a lease on behalf of the Hacker Dojo Corporation for 140a South Whisman Road, San Mateo, CA, and the facility opened its doors on August 23, 2009.
David is an engineer by training and completed his Bachelor of Sciences in Computer Science at Stanford University as a President Scholar. After working for a diverse set of organizations including MIT Lincoln Labs, Stanford Graphics Labs, Harvard Physics Labs, atWeb, Legato, and There.com, David decided to found his own company -- the company that would later become PBworks, the home to over 900,000 online collaborative groups. PBworks (then PBwiki) was founded at the very first DevHouse at 1am in late May, 2005.
